  • The Battle of Vienna, the Gates of Vienna, Blog 1: The historical significance of the siege.
Many have heard of Thermopylae and the Alamo, but how many know the importance of the 1683 siege of Vienna? A mere 11,000 Austrian soldiers faced an Muslim-led army of 130,000-150,000 and held out for two months, when most contests like this were over within two-three weeks.
The siege was significant for many reasons, the foremost is that it stopped the seemingly inevitable Muslim juggernaut rolling into central Europe. We will discuss the incredible story behind behind this struggle in future blogs.
